Piss Pot

Is there a term for a word/phrase/sentence/thought/idea/structure that suddenly pops up in your life? Like when you are watching a movie that has a character with elephantitis, and the book you are reading the next day mentions elephantitis, and then the local paper has an article about the history of elephantitis. The thing is usually fairly uncommon, not likely to come in spurts, but there it is.
Is there a term for that? There should be.

This week for me it's been the poor being referred to as not having "a pot to piss in." Which is just weird when you think about it. Seems pretty low on the list of things you'd want to bring to a desert isle.
